Denver will never be cool
A new piece on the Westword blog is disappointed that Denver's momentum has not been matched with a corresponding increase in urbane coolness. And The Egotist is still out there trying to make Denver suck less.
I once bought into the "creative class" argument that Denver would inevitably become a cool magnet like Seattle, Austin and Minneapolis. But it ain't happening and I'm bored with the whole idea.
We are what we are and it's not likely to change.
So, my fellow citizens of Colorado, I say this unto you: Pull on a high performance fleece covered in dog hair. Look up at the contrails of our cooler coastal friends as they fly over our square state. But most important, quit worrying about how cool this town is. We're the least obese state in the nation, a fact that positions us to avoid jiggling when we take this piece of advice: own up to to the outdoorsy less than urban geeks that we are – and rock what you got.

Coolness is all about confidence. I am ripping this quote from modern dogs site.."Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it." C.S. Lewis.
In other words Andy I couldn't agree with you more lets quit the whole trying to be cool bit. Maybe then someday we actually will be.
I'm sure you've heard the one about when people move to Colorado they are issued a Subaru, a Nalgene, and a pair of birkenstocks. Oh wait, that's Boulder...I mean [insert your athletic shoe preference here]...
Outdoorsy is hip in a much more specific way. It means we are more in touch with the world around us. And what is becoming more cool than that?
The urban life blog scene in Denver is TERRIBLE. Just awful. I long for the day LAist.com or the like opens up DENVERist.com...
well said.
Funny and true and yet... I do think Denver is cool. (Then again, I live in Stapleton and have a 2 year old and a black lab and drive an all-wheel wagon...)
